Berenice Abbott documented the architectural and social transformation of New York City through the project "Changing New York," completed between 1935 and 1939 under the Federal Art Project. She had earlier worked as a darkroom assistant to Man Ray in Paris and was responsible for preserving the photographic archive of Eugène Atget after his death. Her technical innovations extended into scientific and educational photography.

Purchased a Century Universal camera for oversized 8x10 negatives; used for Changing New York (1935-39)

Product description

Folding field 8x10 view camera manufactured by Folmer Graflex (under Eastman Kodak) from 1929 to 1940, with only 10,005 units produced. Built from cherry wood with brass hardware and red leather bellows, weighing just 9 pounds. Features a triple-extension bed providing 28+ inches of bellows draw.
