Privacy Policy — Art is Hard

Overview

Art is Hard (“we,” “our,” or “the site”) is a community-sourced reference database of gear used by fine artists and photographers. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

Information we collect

Account information

If you create an account, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and name from Google. We do not collect payment information — the site is free to use.

Content you submit

When you submit gear connections, artist attributions, or other contributions, that content (including any source URLs and notes you provide) is stored in our database and may be displayed publicly on the site after admin review.

Affiliate click data

When you click an affiliate link, we log the product, the affiliate network, your user ID (if logged in), and the referring page URL. This is used for internal analytics only and is never sold or shared with third parties.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how the site is used. Plausible is privacy-first: it collects no personal data, uses no cookies, and is fully GDPR compliant. No tracking pixels or advertising networks are used on this site.

How we use your information

To provide and operate the site (account management, wishlist, submissions)
To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
To review and publish community-submitted content
To understand site usage and improve the product (via aggregate analytics)
To track affiliate commissions for internal reporting

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate the site:

Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage. Your email and account data are stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
Vercel — web hosting and content delivery.
Cloudflare — CDN, DDoS protection, and bot mitigation. Cloudflare processes requests to this site at the network level.
Resend — transactional email delivery (account and password emails).
Plausible Analytics — privacy-first, cookieless analytics.
Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, Google's privacy policy applies to that authentication flow.

Cookies

Art is Hard does not use advertising or tracking cookies. We use a single session cookie set by Supabase to keep you logged in. When you click an affiliate link and visit a third-party retailer, that retailer may set their own cookies in accordance with their privacy policy.

Affiliate links

This site contains affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence the gear listed on this site — all connections are community-sourced and editorially reviewed.

Your rights

You may at any time:

Request access to the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your account and associated data

To exercise any of these rights, email us at admin@artishard.co. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. Affiliate click logs are retained for up to 24 months for reporting purposes. You may request deletion at any time.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
