Céline Sciamma

Céline Sciamma has directed five features since 2007, each engaging with questions of female identity, desire, and social formation. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) - a film of two women in eighteenth-century Brittany, structured around the ethics of looking - won the Best Screenplay prize at Cannes and became one of the most widely discussed films of its year. She wrote the screenplay for Girlhood (2014) and has collaborated closely with the director Maïwenn.
