Fan Ho began photographing the streets of Hong Kong in the 1950s, producing black-and-white work that drew on cinematic composition and chiaroscuro lighting to document the city before its rapid transformation. He worked in film as an actor and director alongside his photography. His photographs were largely unknown outside Hong Kong until they were republished internationally in the 2010s.
