Juergen Teller began his career photographing musicians in the early 1990s - Kurt Cobain, Björk, Courtney Love - before moving into fashion, where his deliberately lo-fi aesthetic distinguished him from the prevailing glossy conventions of the industry. He has shot advertising campaigns for Marc Jacobs and Céline for more than two decades. He uses a simple flash and a compact camera, and has described his work as depending entirely on trust between himself and his subjects.
