Kim Jung Gi was a South Korean illustrator and manhwa artist born in 1975 in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province. He became famous for drawing enormous, intricately detailed compositions directly in ink from memory, never using pencil sketches or visual references. He studied art and design at Dong-Eui University in Busan, where he first learned the mathematical principles of perspective, and later served over two years in the Republic of Korea Army Special Forces, filling his visual library with detailed knowledge of military vehicles and weapons. He co-founded the AniChanga Art School, published seven sketch collections totaling roughly 5,000 pages, and held a Guinness World Record for the longest drawing by an individual. He died of a heart attack on October 3, 2022, in Paris at age 47.
