Leos Carax
FilmmakerFrench·b. 1960
Known for: Holy Motors (2012), The Lovers on the Bridge (1991)
Leos Carax has directed only five features since 1984, each centered on Denis Lavant and each pursuing an extreme Romantic cinema of love, failure, and physical spectacle. The Lovers on the Bridge (1991), shot over three years on a replica of the Pont Neuf bridge and notorious for exceeding its budget many times over, remains one of the most extravagant productions in French cinema history. Holy Motors (2012) was voted by critics one of the best films of the decade.
