Tyler Mitchell is a photographer and filmmaker from Marietta, Georgia, now based in Brooklyn. In 2018, at age 23, he became the first African American photographer to shoot the cover of American Vogue in its 126-year history, photographing Beyonce for the September issue. His work centers Black subjects in vibrant, pastoral compositions that explore utopian visions of empowerment and tenderness. Mitchell shoots primarily on analog film cameras and has exhibited internationally at the International Center of Photography, Foam Amsterdam, and Gagosian, which represents him globally.
