Edmund de Waal is a British ceramicist and writer born in Nottingham in 1964. He apprenticed with potter Geoffrey Whiting at age 17, then studied English literature at Cambridge before spending time in Japan studying ceramics and the Japanese language. He is also the author of The Hare with Amber Eyes (2010), a family memoir that became an international bestseller.
