Errol Morris directed The Thin Blue Line (1988) — a documentary about a wrongfully convicted man on Texas's death row that combined Philip Glass's score with stylized re-enactments of the crime — and is credited with securing the subject's release and establishing the docudrama as a tool for justice. He invented the Interrotron, a device that allows interview subjects to make eye contact with the camera while looking directly at the interviewer, and has used it in all his subsequent work. His The Fog of War (2003) won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
