Jacques Audiard

Jacques Audiard has directed eight features since 1994, each a formally controlled genre film — prison drama, immigration thriller, Western — in which genre conventions become instruments for examining identity, violence, and social belonging. A Prophet (2009) won the Grand Prix at Cannes; Dheepan (2015) won the Palme d'Or. He has worked as a screenwriter and continues to write his own scripts.
