Brian De Palma made his early films in the New York underground before developing an intensely Hitchcock-inflected thriller style in Sisters (1972), Obsession (1976), and Dressed to Kill (1980). Scarface (1983) and The Untouchables (1987) extended his formal control into crime epic. His use of split-screen, slow motion, and the subjective camera constitutes a sustained engagement with the mechanics of cinematic suspense.
Connection note
Product description
The Panaflex Gold is a 35mm motion picture camera produced by Panavision, a company that manufactures equipment exclusively for rental to productions. Its near-silent operation and compatibility with Panavision's proprietary anamorphic and spherical lens systems made it a standard for Hollywood features from the 1980s onward. Christopher Nolan and many other directors continue to use Panavision equipment for productions shot on film.
