Dana Schutz is an American painter born in Livonia, Michigan in 1976, known for gestural, figurative paintings that depict subjects in impossible or invented scenarios. She received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2000 and her MFA from Columbia University in 2002. Her oil paintings feature bold impasto surfaces, vivid color, and complex allegorical narratives. She also works in sculpture, casting clay forms in bronze, and has produced prints including etchings, drypoints, and monotypes at Two Palms studio.
