Georges Braque developed Analytic Cubism alongside Picasso between 1908 and 1914, working in such close collaboration that their paintings of the period are sometimes difficult to attribute without documentation. After being seriously wounded in World War I, he returned to painting with a more personal and decorative style, focusing on studio subjects - birds, musical instruments, fruit - that he revisited for the rest of his career. He was the first living artist to have work exhibited in the Louvre.
