Billy Wilder fled Nazi Germany for Hollywood in 1933 and became one of the most consistently successful filmmaker-writers in studio history. Double Indemnity (1944), Sunset Boulevard (1950), and Some Like It Hot (1959) each defined its genre. He received Academy Awards for writing, directing, and producing, and was one of only a handful of people to receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
